Holiday Memories

I would like to dedicate this blog to the most precious gift you can give your children this holiday season – fond holiday memories. If you are anything like me, when you think of your childhood, you might not remember every gift you ever received. However, you are more likely to recall fond memories of activities you did with family and friends and the joy that came with it.

As I’ve most likely shared before, I grew up in Maine where trees are in no short supply. Our Christmas tree was always selected from the bounty of trees on our property. One year, the chosen tree had a rather twisted trunk which wasn’t realized until it was all set up. This characteristic coupled with a malfunctioning tree stand and a very curious family cat, resulted in the tree toppling over countless times. As you can imagine, my parents found this most upsetting, but my brothers and I found it to be incredibly entertaining. After much frustration, my father decided to secure the tree directly to the wall behind it using every strap and scrap of rope he could find. It was undoubtedly the most unattractive Christmas tree we ever had, but it certainly was the most memorable!

I share this personal holiday memory with you as a reminder that, no matter how stressful your holiday may become, it is when things don’t quite go as planned that create opportunities for beloved family memories.

I know that our community celebrates a variety of holidays this time of year. My wish for each of you is that as your family celebrates together, you are able to create precious memories that last forever.

We look forward to seeing all the ways your child will learn and grow in 2022!
