Kindergarten Program: Age 5 by Sept. 30th

We are excited to announce the return of our LANK Kindergarten program. This program is intended to provide students with a small, nurturing, play-based environment to learn kindergarten skills and state standards. â€‹

How many teachers will my child have and who will they be?

LANK staff are issued contracts after the annual budget is passed; typically in June. For the 2024-2025 school year, LANK anticipates employing two teachers to team-teach this class with one teaching in the morning and the other teaching the afternoon session with overlap in the middle of the day. We feel this would provide the support needed in this building year for the program. While staffing is still being finalized, know that LANK is fortunate to have teachers with incredible educational backgrounds and experience levels. The caliber of our LANK staff truly makes our school stand apart from other early childhood centers.

Special Opportunities/Events:

  • Two highly skilled educators  team-teaching a class of 10 students

  • Field Trip(s) – This was a fun part of our program historically. Parents provided transportation.

  • Specialized materials suited for the needs of kindergarten learners such as Handwriting Without Tears K materials, Scholastic readers for kindergarteners, journals, and more.

  • A lending library of leveled readers available for students to take home to read with families.

  • Small group and individual instruction in literacy.

  • Kindergarten science fair.

Will students participate in assessments?

Students in this program will be assessed in Spring of 2024 in literacy and mathematics to provide information needed while the teachers plan over the summer months and ensure the availability of appropriate materials. After this, they will complete a short formal assessment at the beginning, middle, and end of the year to provide important feedback for the teacher and parents on the child’s progress. Aside from this, the teachers will informally check students through observation and feedback to drive instruction.

Who is this program intended for?

LANK is an inclusive community and our kindergarten program is an extension of that. Things to consider:

  • Are you looking for an alternative to other kindergarten programs?

  • Do you want to give your child another year in a small setting with a small class size?

  • Do you want your child to have increased opportunities for play and nature exploration?

  • Do you want your child to experience increased outside time during the school day?

  • Are you looking for a way to build your child’s independence, self-confidence and curiosity?

  • Do you want your child to have another year to learn the K curriculum in an engaged, play-based manner?
