11 Local Places to Take Your Preschooler This Summer
LANK has been out of school for almost three weeks and now is just about the time when parents and children start to grow weary of sleeping in, and trying to figure out a plan for the day. Fortunately, we live in a great area with entertainment for all ages.
Check the list below which includes a variety of suggestions. An added bonus is most are not too far from home. All can appeal to a variety of ages, but of course have our preschoolers and kindergartners in mind. Stay tuned for my next blog which will be all about summertime fun without leaving home!
Theater
Junie B. Jones is Not a Crook at Adventure Theatre
See a classic on stage as the Kennedy Center presents The Sound of Music
See another classic on strings as The Puppet Co. presents The Wizard of Oz
Panda Monium is the featured Tiny Tots show at the puppet theatre in Glen Echo
Parks 5. Clark’s Elioak Farm in Ellicott City, Maryland Perfect spot for the preschool crowd as there is an enchanted forest and petting zoo. The Enchanted Forest has restored items from beloved tales; Snow White, Sleeping Beauty, Robin Hood, The Three Pigs houses, the Rainbow Bridge, Little Boy blue, The Old Woman’s Shoe, and the Three Bears Houses. Doesn’t this sound like fun?
Cabin John has lots of open space, and picnic spots too! There is a mini train that will interest little ones 7. Burke Lake Park in Fairfax Station, Virginia
Burke Lake Park also has a mini train ride and a carousel. Pack a picnic, and make a day of it!
8. US Botanic Garden in Washington, DC I like botanic gardens because there is something for everyone! At this garden, their website boasts of some new improvements. The Children’s Garden has recent updates that include; a new platform climbing structure, a new kiwifruit vine tunnel, a new digging area, expanded seating areas, and added additional shade structures. Spaces to dig, explore, plant, water, and care for plants remain in the updated garden.
Nature
Nature Centers are always a favorite.
9. Potomac Overlook Regional Park in Arlington Children can explore snakes, turtles, lizards, birds, bees, geology, and more with hands on activities. There is even a kids cave!
Nice trails for hiking short distances, and lots of animals in tanks for children to view.
There is a free guided one hour walk on Saturday mornings that might interest your budding naturalist!
