Junior Preschool

LANK’s Junior Preschool (JP) program is the perfect program for your child's first preschool experience. Taught by warm, nurturing professionals, JP gives your two year old a happy and joyful introduction to school where they experience days filled with stories, music, rhyming, outside play, art projects, finger paint, play-dough, and lots and lots of hugs!

What You Should Know

  • This program is for children who will be two years old by September 30th
  • There are two teachers that work in each AM and PM JP session providing a student/teacher ratio of 5:1 or 6:1.
  • Your child may attend JP for as few as one day a week or a many as three days a week
  • JP is the only LANK program where children are not required to be toilet-trained prior to enrollment

What to Expect

Many parents sending their child to school for the first time are uneasy about taking that first step. Our priority at LANK is to make each child feel welcome and safe and we will do our very best to make the transition as easy as possible.

Here are just a few of the skills your child will learn during this special first year:

Socially:

  • Separate from parent
  • Interact and cooperate with peers
  • Begin to develop empathy for others
  • Demonstrate independence
  • Become aware of class routines
  • Sit for short periods of time with his/her group

Cognitively:

  • Use verbal expression
  • Listen and respond in small groups
  • Follow simple directions
  • Recognize primary colors, simple shapes and some letters
  • Participate in conversations
  • Enjoy stories, songs, and rhymes

Physically:

  • Continue to develop small and large muscles
  • Successfully drink from a cup
  • Begin to cut with scissors
  • Use school materials appropriately
