Building Renovation
The Board of Trustees, along with the directors, is excited about the renovation at LANK over this summer! First, and most importantly, we'd like to thank all of you in our LANK parent community who have generously and consistently donated funds over the course of your years at LANK. This has allowed the board to move forward with the project, knowing that we have the resources available to proceed with responsibility and confidence.
There have been several factors in the decision to consider a renovation to the front of our school. Foremost in our minds has been the safety of our students. We will be putting in more windows in the front of the building, allowing clear sight lines from the interior of the office spaces up to the parking lot area. Secondly, we were interested in effectively utilizing the existing square footage in our classroom areas and enhancing the learning environment for the students. Next, we looked at providing a less-congested, more welcoming foyer where we have different doors for entrances and exits, especially during the busy pick up and drop off times. Last, but certainly not least, we wanted to change the offices into a more open and visible environment that allows our directors and business manager to have a workspace that functions more efficiently for them and for the students and teachers.
We have retained an architect, Mike Miller and Associates, who has produced a plan to incorporate all of these objectives. Mr. Miller was part of the firm started by the architect of the original building and he also did the architectural work on the JP/Multipurpose section of our building which was completed in the early 2000s. Mr. Miller has a special place in his heart for LANK and has been very helpful in coming up with a plan that achieves all of our goals without changing the fundamental aesthetics of the building.
The project is underway now and construction will continue through the end of August. The office will remain open during construction, but is presently relocated to the back of the school. Please check back throughout the summer to see photos of the progress:
August 8: Framing nearly complete and getting ready for our new roof.
August 5: Framing for new exterior walls.
August 2: More work done around exterior to prepare for new walls.
July 12: Exterior walls surrounding office area are removed; temporary walls in place.
